The Miata Reunion is returning to Sonoma Raceway to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the Miata, this year honoring the car that started it all -- the NA!
Join us for an exciting weekend filled with a wide range of fun activities, including plenty of social interaction, the Moss Miata Car Show, Parade Laps, the Saturday Party, two days of exciting track time, and a very special Saturday Group Photo to commemorate 35 years of the Miata.
The Miata Reunion was first started in 2009 at Laguna Seca Raceway, California, by a group of enthusiasts, and has since grown into a huge annual gathering of a full spectrum of Miata lovers.

- Drive the track and experience the perspective of race drivers during the Saturday Parade Laps at a safe and slow speed.
- Drive your Miata in HPDE Track Days all day Saturday and Sunday, open for everyone from complete beginners to fully licensed racers. Novice instruction at no additional cost. (Register early -- space limited).

Tom Matano:
We’re fortunate to once again have with us one of our favorite people – Tom Matano! Not only is he the original Chief Designer of the Miata, he’s a heck of a nice guy. There’s a bit of a tradition here, as Tom has joined us for literally every Miata Reunion event we’ve ever held – so it just wouldn’t be a Reunion without him. We look forward to Tom addressing our West Coast Miata family!

Bob Hall:
Bob Hall first joined Mazda back in 1981, back when the concept of the Miata was nothing more than some swirling ideas and simple hand drawings on a chalkboard. As the old saying goes, “the rest is history”, as the famous original Miata design team came together one by one. Bob was the key player in bringing onboard the talented, imaginative and forward-thinking team that would ultimately make the Miata a reality. Make sure to check the Event Schedule to attend Bob’s presentation on Saturday morning that will include Mark Jordan and Jim Kilbourne (and yes – you’ll get to see photos of that original chalkboard drawing!)

Mark Jordan:
Before creating his own design consulting business in 2009, Mark was the Advanced Vehicle Development Manager at Mazda North American Operations. In this position, he led numerous programs in Advanced Product, Brand, and Production Development such as the MX-5 Miata,1992 Mazda MX-6 sports coupe, the 2004 Mazda RX8 concepts, plus others.
Mark is most widely known for his innovative work as the Lead Designer of the original Mazda MX-5 Miata sports car. Upon the Miatas Introduction, he was featured in an array of national and international publications as the chosen member of the Miata design team. He and Mr. Toshihiko Hirai, the MX-5 Japanese program manager jointly accepted the Automotive Press guild ‘Golden Gear Award’ for the trans pacific collaboration of the Mazda Miata development. In addition, he gave a presentation to the 1990 Automobile News World Congress on the Miata MX-5 design development.

Norman H. Garrett III:
Norman is an accomplished Automotive Engineer working for major companies such as Mazda, Subaru, Volvo, etc.. He is best known as the Concept Engineer for the original Mazda Miata design, stemming from his work for the automaker’s Southern California Design Studio. There, he developed the original suspension and packaging layout, achieving the group's goal of the ultimate “Lightweight Sports Car" with excellent balance and handling characteristics. His corporate experiences span the global automotive development arena, with notable success in specific markets related to energy, emissions, and materials. He has worked on technology transfer projects with Georgia Tech and Oak Ridge National Lab as well as with private ventures. Garrett is a native of North Carolina with an engineering degree from Georgia Tech, where he has also served as an adjunct faculty member. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Motorsports Engineering school at UNC-Charlotte and Director of Test Engineering at Husqvarna’s R&D Center.

Ken Saward:
Ken served as one of Mazda's top designers for over 3 decades, and is credited with the design of the NB – but did you know he was also involved in the designs of the NC and ND as well? He joins us at the Miata Reunion from Southern California, where he continues his exciting career as Design Operations Manager at Singer Vehicle Design. A true Miata enthusiast, Ken has logged a ton of racing time in his Spec Miata (an NB of course!) Ken will be a part of both the Panel Discussion on Saturday morning and will also be the Keynote Speaker for the Saturday Party. Click here to learn a bit more about Ken's design history

Jim Kilbourne:
Literally every person on the Dream Team had an important role, some different than others. When people talk about secret agents, images of James Bond are often the first things that come to mind. But remember James Bond would have been nothing without the hard work and brilliance of all those people on the team who made everything happen – from cool weapons to inside intel on a bad guy. Jim is just that sort of secret agent. During those early formative years of the Miata project at Mazda, all the design talent in the world would have been for nothing had it not been for Jim’s in-depth research and sheer stick-to-it-ivness. It was Jim’s job to prove to Mazda Japan that this baby would fly and convince them to risk the investment (and reputation!) to make it happen.
